NR 12 Brazilian Standard Update
UPDATE
The revision and updating of the NR 12 Regulation are one of the priorities of the Brazilian Minister of Labor to guarantee higher safety standards of workplace; the last NR 12 revision dates back 18 December 2018.
The Brazilian norm NR 12 “machinery and work equipment safety” is the main legislation - but not the only one - that regulates the electrical, pneumatic, mechanical and documentary requirements of the machinery, the training of workers and specific aspects of safety in workplace setting specific obligations for the manufacturer and the employer. The Minister of Labor had traditionally revised some provisions of NR 12 Regulation approximately every 1-2 years.
Brazilian Ordinance n. 1083, 18th December 2018: the main change that directly involves machine manufacturers concerns the safety related part of control systems, specifically the category required by the emergency circuit; the other changes refer mainly to:

- Training and content of courses for workers
- The use of specific safety systems to prevent the risk of electric shock, in accordance with the provisions of NR 10 Regulation, in the lifting means of the operators for electrical work at height
The amendment is effective from the date of publication of the Ordinance on the "Diàrio Oficial da Uniao - Ministerio do Trabalho" (19th December 2018). The text of the Ordinance n. 1083 has not yet been integrated into norm NR 12, as soon as we receive the updated NR 12 Regulation we will inform you.
