NR 12 "Segurança no trabalho em máquinas e equipamentos" is a law adopted by the Brazilian Ministry of Labor (MTE) to regulate the safety of industrial machinery and guarantee health and safety on the workplace. The NR 12 Brazilian regulation, entered in force in 2010, was subjected to several subsequent updates.
The latest update of NR 12 dates back to May 14, 2018 with Portaria MTb n. 98.
The NR 12 norm obliges all manufacturers, sellers and buyers to comply with the expected safety requirements: the design, construction, exhibition at the fair, the sale and use of non-compliant machinery are forbidden.
The violation of the safety requirements of NR 12 Brazil may have several negative consequences for:

- The brazilian end user: in case of inspection by the inspectorate of the Brazilian Ministry of Labor and the evaluation of non-compliance, the company could be forced to stop the machine and the production until its adaptation to the NR 12 regulations and the other Brazilian standard
- The manufacturer (exporter): the end user (brazilian company) has the right to request immediate adaptation of the installed machinery due to design and construction defects. The violation of the Brazilian NR 12 could have costly economic consequences for the manufacturer (for example penalties for the delay of production, to any claims for damages due to the defect of the goods, ..)
