CE Mark and NR 12 Brazilian Certification

DEEPENING

The Brazilian approach on safety of industrial machinery is different from European one. The Brazilian NR 12 standard includes specific obligations for employer, designer and manufacturer of the machine. The NR 12 standard at point NR 12.134, provides the prohibition of manufacturing, importing, marketing, auctioning, leasing, transfer for any reason, disposal and use of machines and equipment that do not comply with national Brazilian regulations.

During machinery construction, the manufacturer must consider the requirements of Brazilian NR 12, Brazilian NR 10, Brazilian NR 17 and other applicable Regulatory Standards. Only in the event of a legislative vacuum can be used the requirements of international standards.

The manufacturer is therefore obliged to:

  • Provide a machine that complies with the technical requirements of NR 12, NR 10, NR 17 and other applicable Brazilian regulations from design and construction phase
  • Identify the limit of the machine and residual risks in compliance with the NR 12 and other applicable Brazilian regulations
  • Provide the necessary documentation to export to Brazil in Brazilian Portuguese language
  • Appoint a CREA Brazilian Engineer in order to assess the compliance of the machine on the installation site, draw up the compliance report Laudo de Validação NR 12 and issue the A.R.T.
